In the fall of 2016, A.F. Amorello was awarded the site contract for the new skating rink development in Worcester’s Canal District at the defunct Presmet/GKN Sinter Metals industrial complex. The 3-acre, former manufacturing complex on Harding Street will now be a sports complex, specifically, new ice rinks at the so-called Worcester Sports Center. It will include not only the rinks, but retail stores and food establishments. The site is a former brownfield cleanup at the site and has been empty since 2007 when the company closed. The rinks will be used not only by the new professional hockey team coming to Worcester, which will play its games in the DCU Center, but also for college, school and youth teams and by figure skaters and families. A.F. Amorello was contracted to perform earthwork, foundation excavation, crushing, wall construction, drainage installation, utility installation, paving, curbing and sidewalks.
