In the fall of 2016, A.F. Amorello was awarded the site contract for the new skating rink development in Worcester’s Canal District at the defunct Presmet/GKN Sinter Metals industrial complex. The 3-acre, former manufacturing complex on Harding Street will now be a sports complex, specifically, new ice rinks at the so-called Worcester Sports Center. It will include not only the rinks, but retail stores and food establishments. The site is a former brownfield cleanup at the site and has been empty since 2007 when the company closed. In the spring of 2016, A.F. Amorello was awarded the site contract for Lakeway Commons in Shrewsbury, MA. Lakeway Commons is a 375,000 square foot mixed-use development, comprised of 100,000 square feet of retail, 250 apartments, 14 townhomes, and is anchored by a 50,000 square foot Whole Foods, in a prime location on busy Route 9, near UMass Memorial Medical Center. This 25-acre major redevelopment project consists of pulverizing existing parking lots, crushing existing foundations from demolished buildings, earthwork, retaining walls, drainage, utilities, paving and curbing. In the fall of 2015, A.F. Amorello was awarded the road contract for the off-site work for the Shops at Highland Commons Project in Hudson/Berlin, MA. A.F. Amorello had previously completed the last phase of the site portion of this 1,000 sf retail mall in 2015. This off-site work was a one mile stretch of Route 62 that consisted of full depth reclamation, milling, drainage, retaining walls, traffic signals, paving and curbing. This road widening and realignment was part of the traffic mitigation for the mall and entrance/exists to route 495.

A.F. Amorello was awarded a $7.8 million Sutton Street Reconstruction Project, consisting of improvements to approximately 2.1 miles of roadway corridor to begin in 2014. This project is being funded and managed/administered under the management of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). The project parameters extend from the Sutton town line to Providence Road (Route 122). These improvements will include a new roadway surface, improved drainage, newly defined wider shoulders to accommodate bicycles, new handicap accessible sidewalks and curbing, cross-walks, pavement markings and signage, and new public shade trees. In the summer/fall of 2015 A.F. Amorello was contracted to remove and replace ~200,000sf of pavement and curbing at this location. Work also included exterior sanitary sewer renovations, secondary electric renovations, grading and drainage improvements. This work had to be done on weekends as to not impede EMC employees and was successfully completed on schedule and under budget. A.F. Amorello owns and operates its own asphalt reclaimers and MADOT certified asphalt plant which allowed this project to be completed nights.

In the summer/fall of 2015 A.F. Amorello was awarded the Chestnut Street project which involves the following major items of reconstruction on Chestnut Street from Warren Lane to the north end of Chestnut Street. The project included approximately 1,100 feet in total length of roadway, including water and drain improvements, concrete sidewalk construction, granite curb, roadway pavement reclamation, grading and paving. In the fall of 2015 A. F. Amorello completed the site construction for the exterior renovations to this project. Site improvements for this project included selective demolition, erosion control, drainage & utility improvements. The existing parking lot was also replaced with a new alignment all while maintaining pedestrian traffic to the existing buildings.

Starting in 2014, A.F. Amorello was contracted by WPI to reconstruct the five acre vacant parking lot adjacent to National Grid. This lot was pulverized and re-paved with electronic security features installed for student safety along with new landscaping. The approximate value was $300,000.

In 2014, A.F. Amorello was contracted by Benderson Development to complete the last phase of the Highland Commons Project totaling over 20 acres. This project included earthwork (over 40,000c.y.), utilities, retaining walls, curbing, paving and striping. It also included an aggressive schedule to bring the site “pad ready” for such stores as Michaels, PetSmart, TJ Maxx and a 90,000s.f. Cabelas and others. In addition, A.F. Amorello was contracted by the building contractors to excavate and backfill for these foundations, as well as roughing out the interior utilities.

In 2013, A.F. Amorello was awarded a $7.4 million road reconstruction project along Routes 12 and 20 in Auburn and Oxford. This project is being funded and managed/administered under the management of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The 1.5-mile section of Southbridge Road (Routes 12 and 20) between Washington Street in Auburn and Main Street in Oxford will be reconstructed. Along with sewer, water and drain upgrades it will include a raised median to separate eastbound and westbound traffic, eliminating left turns and minimizing crossover accidents, and wider outside travel lanes. The project is planned to take three (3) years.
